Were still editing these and hope to get them all online
soon.
In the meantime if there is something specific which you want answered
and can't find it on this site then please email the relevant committee
member who will hopefully be able to point you in the right direction.
How to sign up for a trip
If you are a member then you will receive an email from the organiser
about one or two weeks before the trip. You can then sign up to a trip
by replying to that email. Failing that or if your not actually a member
them pop along to the pub night before the trip where you'll be able to
meet the organiser and sign up in person. Non members are allowed to come
on a couple of trips after which we would ask you to join.
Experience needed
Members must take full responsibility for their own safety. The Club does
not provide training or guiding services nor does it take any responsibility
for members or their activities when on club trips. Participation in club
activities is entirely at the members’ own risk.
We advise novice climbers to take training courses at climbing walls and
outdoor centres as the Club is not able to train beginners.
Weekend trips
Club trips are organised twice a month to various places in the UK, such
as north and south Wales, the Lake District, Cornwall and the Peak District.
There are trips to Scotland at New Year and Easter.
We stay at campsites, and at hostels and huts for some winter trips.
The organiser of the trip arranges lifts and books the campsite or hut.
Activities during the trip are not arranged by the Club or organiser but
decided by individuals each day according to the weather / what people
are interested in. Individual members also informally arrange other trips
between themselves in the UK and overseas.
Prospective members and guests can come on one trip before joining the
Club.
Equipment needed
Waterproof jacket & trousers, walking boots, rucksack, head-torch,
sleeping bag and mat, gloves, scarf & hat, tent for most spring-autumn
meets, map.
In addition, for climbing: climbing shoes, harness, helmet, karabiner
& belay device, nut key.
Food – bring breakfast & lunch for 2 days, and water carrier
(there is usually a drinking water tap at the campsite). For evening meals
we go to a local pub or cook at the hut or in the campsite.
Climbing
Members have different levels of ability from VD through to lower extreme
grades. Members who wish to climb on weekend trips need to have experience
of basic climbing techniques, rope work and related skills if they second
a lead climber. Members meet at Mile End, the Castle and Westway climbing
walls. There are winter mountaineering trips to Scotland and members often
go to the Alps in summer.
Walking
Members should make sure they are properly equipped for two full days’
walks on weekend trips and have a reasonable level of fitness and good
map reading skills.
