Stoke - North Devon
A new venue for the club. Stoke is in spitting distance of the
south coast path and thus Hartland Quay so excellent for walkers.
The coastal walking here is excellent and I'd highly recommend
the walk from Clovelly to Hartland Quay and down to Bude which
I have done in two days.
For climbers the area is referred to as the Culm Coast and the
Climbers Club do the guide 'North Devon and Cornwall'. Generally
speaking it has a bit of a reputation for its climbing. Although
there are some more amenable areas such as Marsland, Vicarage
Cliff and Cornakey cliff near Morwenstow. If the Culm coast isn't
your thing then Baggy Point is only a short drive further north.
Further south is Bude which boasts a huge beach that offers all
the usual beach sports such as surfing. |

Coniston - Lakes
Coniston is in the southern Lakes, near Windermere and Langdale.
We'll be staying just south (ie. close enough to walk in for dinner)
of Coniston, at Coniston Hall campsite. The campsite is a few
minutes walk from Consiton Water, close enough to the eponymous
Old Man to walk out of the campsite, and within walking distance
of Dow Crag, which is the largest crag in the area (and which
I'm told is one of the best crags in the Lakes).
Slightly further
afield, the Langdale valley, How Crag, Hard Knott (and it's crags)
and Stickle Pike are all within 30-40 minutes drive, as are Grizedale
Forest (with it's mountain bike trails and hire), Windemere and
Ambleside. |

South Pembroke
Cliff top walks, castles, quiet rocky coves and wide sandy beaches...what
more could you ask for? Climbing? South Pembroke has mile upon mile
of spectacular limestone crags with some involving no abseils or
even scrambling to their base! |

Llanberis - Wales
Being the traditional centre of Welsh climbing climbers have a wealth
of spectacular crags to choose from, and great climbing at all grades.
If its been dry for a few days the high mountain crags such as Cloggy
are an option. Wet weather alternatives include climbing at Tremadog
(sheltered, sea level, and equipped with the famous Eric's cafe)
or Gogarth which can be dry on many occasions when it is raining
around Snowdon. If its really wet the Electric Mountain exhibition,
slate mines, and scenic steam railway rides are an option as is
going for a walk or a scramble! With Snowdon just up the road there's
plenty of choices.

Swanage
Coastal walks, castles, coves, fossilized forests and off course
sea cliff climbing on limestone. Deep water soloing, sport to trad
climbs in all the grades with either easy walk ins, scramble approaches
or abseils - the choice it seems is endless. And being on the south
coast a very good chance of some nice weather too!

The Roaches - Peak District
Hopefully we'll stay at Homestead Farm campsite that is right under
Hen Cloud (the next crag along from the Roaches). 5 minutes up the
road there's a cafe doing breakfasts. 15 minutes walk from the camp-site
is the Rock pub (Marstons!) that is the place of choice for most
of us for dinner and the all important post climb/walk beer.
For walkers there is the moors of Staffordshire, gentle but rugged
and very picturesque. The climbers are spoilt for choice with some
of the highest gritstone edges around with routes at all grades.
A day at Hen Cloud is also recommended although not for the faint
hearted!
