Lake District - August Bank Holiday
22 Aug 2025 to 25 Aug 2025

We will be staying at the Gillside Farm Campsite, ideally placed on the edge of Glenridding next to Ullswater and at the foot of Helvellyn. It is a lovely campsite near Ullswater, which is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Lake District.

About the Campsite (you can also look up the website for further details):
Address: The address of the campsite is Gillside Farm, Glenridding by Ullswater, Cumbria, CA11 0QQ
Pricing: details on the website, but it is £11/night for adults, £2/tent and £1/vehicle.
Cars can park next to the tent.
Late arrivals on Friday can pitch their tent and pay on Saturday morning. It is also possible to extend the stay.
If we will be a larger group they would allocate us an area, otherwise, if the number is smaller we can pitch the tents anywhere.
There is a Breakfast Van, which will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings 7:30-10:30. The farm can also supply you with fresh eggs, milk, yogurt and orange juice.
Glenridding is also a short walk from the campsite directly, where there are shops, if you need to stock up on food.
The nearest pub is about 5 minutes walk from the campsite, The Travellers Rest. They cater for vegetarians and vegans also. I imagine it will be busy on the Bank Holiday.

To get to the Campsite you would be able to get public transport, there is a bus stop in Glenridding from where it is a short walk to the camping. Glenridding is accessible via bus from Penrith and you can take a train from London to Penrith.

The campsite is ideally located for walks and climbs in the immediate area.

For Walkers: there are many options directly from the Campsite, one popular option is Helvellyn-Striding Edge-Swirral Edge, which is a challenging
and rewarding walk.
you could check here for further ideas : https://www.walklakes.co.uk/walks_glenridding-patterdale.html

For Climbers: There is the classic scramble of Pinnacle Ridge on St. Sunday crag (grade 3 scramble)
also Ullswater offers various climbing opportunities.
Ghyll Scrambling: there is an opportunity in the area for ghyll scrambling.

(Also for Climbers: There are a few top quality crags in Patterdale, Eagle Crag up Grisedale, Scrubby Crag up Deepdale or Drove Crag up Dovedale, all with a range of grades (these were recommended by Will Green:))

If you were thinking about signing up, sign up now, and it would be great to have drivers also!
